The Rock Garden
A trip to Chandigarh is incomplete if you haven’t visited the Rock Garden. Covering an area of 40 acres, the garden is a fine example of the ingenuity of the human mind. Discarded items such as bottles, sinks, electrical wastes, broken pipes, glasses etc have been used to create amazing sculptures and waterfalls. The park was created by Nek Chand Saini, a government official, and was inaugurated in 1976. Today, it is the most popular tourist site attracting tourists from all over India.
Le Corbusier Centre
Located on the Madhya Marg, Le Corbusier Centre is a striking building. It was once the office of Le Corbusier, the famous and innovative architect who planned the beautiful city of Chandigarh. Today, the centre is a museum. The centre is a must-visit as here one can get a fascinating glimpse of the legacy and the work of the noted architect. One can visit the museum between 10 m and 6 pm.
Pinjore Gardens
Abounding with utmost greenery, Pinjore Gardens is a treat to the eyes. A Mughal era garden, the garden was built in the 17th century for the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The garden is home to terraces, fountains, open-air theatre, cypress trees and a variety of exotic flowers. All through the year many festivals are held at the garden like Pinjore Mango Fair, Pinjore Baisakhi Festival, Pinjore Heritage Festival etc.
Chhatbir Zoo
If you love wildlife, then a visit to Chhatbir Zoo is a must. Situated some 20 kilometres away from Chandigarh, the zoo is home to a number of reptiles, birds, and animals like the Sambar Deer, Asiatic Lion, Indian Leopard, Zebra, sloth bear, black buck among others. If you are lucky, you might also get a glimpse of the Royal Bengal Tiger. Inaugurated in 1977, the Chhatbir Zoo is one of the most popular attractions near Chandigarh.
