Get the battery ready

Before starting the process, wear gloves to clean the battery from corrosion. Moreover, you need to equip yourself with information about battery size, post configuration, and its components. Mix baking soda with distilled water and turns it to paste. Use the paste to clean the battery with steel wool. Scrub the corrosion part with a toothbrush until the foams appear. Wash using the mixture of baking soda and water. Wipe it with a cloth and let it dry.

Scrutinize the battery voltage

Charge the battery

Take off the caps to convince the electrolyte doesn’t overspill or heat up. Put the charger far away from the battery. Connect both positive and negative sides to their suitable terminals. Then, charge the battery slowly within a day and a half.

Try the battery

After doing battery reconditioning, use a voltmeter to examine battery functionality. Connect the battery to a car. Put it on high beams but no need to start the car. If it shows less than 9.6 V, it means the battery isn’t fully reconditioned and you need to recap the reconditioning steps. In some cases, you may need a couple of cycling to have appropriate reading on the voltmeter.
